Anglesey Sea Bass Diptych GyotakuCOLLECTION ONLY FROM MY STUDIO This bass was caught on a line by a local fisherman here in North Wales. It was caught on the Menai Stait. Bass are my favourite fish to print the definition you get on the scales is wonderful. Whereas most Gyotaku are made to record a fisherman's catch, I combine my experience as an oil painter and create Gyotaku that are more expressive using colour in a less conventional way. Here I have used the same fish, printing

It's printed on a Japanese paper which has been 'wet mounted' to a second piece of Japanese paper

flat print that can now be framed

home made glue of flour and water is applied to the back of the print and in this process you remove all air bubbles and wrinkles

The composition in this print is one I revisit as I love the loneliness of the fish as it dives

this work continues my exploration of Gyotaku-inspired art—a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Japanese fish printing method

It has then been wet mounted using the traditional Japanese method

The print measures approx 21x29cm

Making this print was so much fun

As standard

For this I use a flour and water glue to adhere the print to backing paper and in the process the print becomes flat and ready to frame

The framing was done by a professional framer and the print comes with a certificate
