Singing songs for shipsMelissa Lakey is an artist and illustrator based in Joshua Tree, California, where the windows of her art studio look out onto the Mojave Desert. Her colorful mixed media paintings explore the magic of the American Southwest, as well as night, summertime, road trips, solitude, and friendship. She creates work based on both real memories and imaginary places shed like to visit swimming, dreaming, in the sunshine and under the moonlight. Show title:

When I work en plein air I invent color and shape in an effort to simplify the excess of visual information

and incorporating them into my work

But I let them depart from that point

This is an ongoing personal project lead by my own intuition and artist's aesthetic to connect the viewer with the inner self through archetype and imagery
