John Dory & Juvenile – Gyotaku Print FramedThis A3 Gyotaku print features both an adult John Dory and a juvenile specimen, the smaller of which was a gifted scientific sample. Printed using lightfast, permanent blue and gold acrylic inks on Chinese Xuan paper, the composition offers a contemporary interpretation of the Gyotaku tradition balancing scientific observation with expressive colour and modern presentation. The initial print is wet mounted and reinforced with two layers of acid free

The print will be sent out in an A4 mount ready for framing

The octopus is printed on to Thai mulberry based paper which measures 76x51cm

each fish is printed individually

This is a large print on hand made Japanese paper

We released the ones that had started to move back into the sea as the tide was going out

The sardine was sourced from an independent fishmonger who is a 10 minute drive from my studio

Her use of Acer leaves in place of the traditional fish not only challenges expectations but also highlights the versatility of the Gyotaku method

This uses a simple flour and water paste to bond the print to a backing paper and requires a period of around 24 hours to dry and stretch
