Gyotaku of a small Red Mullet from the waters of North Wales in SumiI recently met a local marine biologist who said he might have some samples for me once they've served their purposes in the lab. When he messaged me to say he had a Red Mullet I was very excited. However I was not expecting this! With a body measuring approx 16cm by 3cm this this tiny mullet was stunning. All the details are exactly the same as on a fully developed larger fish just in miniature

This must be left longer for the ink to fully cure into the paper before attempting the next stage

The Japanese name for this process is Urauchi which I believe means gluing backing paper to artwork

So the wet mounting is to flatten the print

I sectioned off the paper into 8 parts and using 3 colours
