Herring Gyotaku Print finished with watercolourHerring is a new fish for me. I've enjoyed working with them. I have used premium quality black acrylic ink. The fish eyes are hand painted after printing. It is signed by myself, Jane Evans as well as using my hanko stamp, the traditional method of marking artwork in Japan. The prints measure 69cm x34cm approx and are on a Chinese mulberry calligraphy paper. This paper is strong yet flexible so ideal for shaping over fish. Producing the print is only

It's printed on a Japanese paper which has been 'wet mounted' to a second piece of Japanese paper

If you aren't familiar with Gyotaku the process is to take an actual fish

letting the work dry overnight to ensure durability and smoothness

I’ve used some gold ink so it has a touch of shimmer

the artwork has a soft iridescence that shifts beautifully in the light

This print is mounted in a mount with an A4 aperture and an outside measurement of approx 40cmx50cm
