Scallop Shell Duo GyotakuScallop shells have been used so much in art and design they really are very pleasing. They are particularly tied to the Island of Anglesey as they have their own biscuit here. The Aberffraw biscuit is made by pressing biscuit dough into the shell to give it a distinctive shell shape. They also taste great too! Printing requires pushing the paper into the grooves and it's difficult to achieve a great print. This print is A4 in size and is on Chinese

I've swapped it around so in some places I've applied yellow then red then blue

I got chatting to a client who bought three pieces of work from me and turned out she owns our local tackle and bait shop

The design is digitally printed onto the Tea Towel

For the majority of my work

cooking or catching fish

it's captured a lot of the scale detail

Printed using art grade Sumi on Chinese Xuan paper

Herring is a new fish for me

To print multiple shells is also quite difficult as lining the paper up so they sit side by side takes practice

I use a very soft wide goat hair brush and can take all the creases and air bubbles out from the paper so it's completely flat
